I doubt it. If they didn’t want to live the Amish lifestyle, they’d probably just leave the community.

Nightshad, let’s investigate the Amish in the dark of night and find out…shh…shh!

I always imagined them going out of the basic area where they sell stuff, taking off their wig, putting a cigarette in their mouth and, after chugging some whiskey, complain about having to put on the dance yet again for the tourists. I then see them going home and putting porn tapes on and donning cow saddles and glossy leather boots.

I went thru Amish country last summer. There were no lights on in the houses but new cars and trucks (even a boat) in their driveways. God bless them.

  16. #16 by I_Love_Life! on November 29, 2009 - 2:02 am

Yeah, they share the internet with the Abominable Snowman and the Yeti!

The Amish are a proud and traditional group of people. I highly doubt they are going to waste their time watching the garbage that is on television.

  17. #17 by karat4top on November 29, 2009 - 2:02 am

Why would they? They have chosen a lifestyle and religion for themselves, it was not forced upon them. I have read that once Amish teenagers have reached a certain age, they have an option to commit to that lifestyle or go join the "English" – they have a change to "try it out".

Personally, I think we would be better off with a little less knowledge and convenience. If the power grid ever goes out for more than a week in this country, many people will die from ignorance. They won’t know where to turn for heat, food, water, etc. when the local grocery is gone.

No, they live quite happily without TVs and electricity. Sometimes the Mennonite people have some technological advances that the more conservative Amish reject.

no. TV glows and generators make noise that doesn’t sound like a cow!

  20. #20 by martiismyname on November 29, 2009 - 2:02 am

Amish kids are like any other kids; they will push the envelope. They will watch TV every opportunity they have. As for generators, I think not.

LOL, well I have read about a branch of Amish people called, Beach Amish who do accept the new technologies but still consider themselves part of the community. And slowly but surely Amish are starting to accept modern technologies (little by little). There might come a day when this society doesn’t exist.

A lot of the kids do.
